Happy Fasnacht Day!
Yea! Who wouldn't want to celebrate the day where you get to gorge out on breakfast food and donuts!! In our family we have a yearly tradition of celebrating Fasnacht Day, and Fasnacht means "eve of the fast" in Dutch. We first started the official tradition when we lived in London....where it is called Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day. We even celebrated it with some of our Brazilian friends one year in London. It is such a fun meal! Some of you may know it as Mardi Gras which is French for "fat Tuesday".
I remember celebrating it every year in elementary school. We would have donuts in class and love to put them on our finger and eat around in a circle till it was all gone!! There were lots of Catholics and Pennsylvania Dutch where I grew up, so it was fun to learn about Lent, even thought we don't practice it. But, we do have Fast Sunday at the beginning of each month in our church, which is still all about sacrificing. Anyway, the whole point is that you use up all of your sweets, sugar, fats, and meat because Lent starts tomorrow.
We decided to invite a few friends over and share our tradition with them....it was soooo fun!!! Let us know if you want to join in next year!! It was so great! We sure do love our fun friends here in CT!!
Love, Love, Love these plates from Swoozies...and the matching silver ware!!
The exciting and celebratory donuts after a huge breakfast!
Rosy Posey with what little is left of her donut...she is soooo cute!
Crazy Ian...he is lovin' his donut...and we tried to scrape off as many sprinkles as we could!! I guess that is a new thing since he turned four....he broke up with sprinkles....too funny!! Maybe if they were blue/black...I'll have to ask him!
Miss Anabelle...with just a little chocolate left over! What a cute pose!
