dutch love
i am feeling a little like this today. like i need to be out on the ice. to feel the crisp wind on my face and the warm sun on my back.
i love winter. it is so fresh and clean and undisturbed. when it is okay to hibernate, or frolick in the snow, no matter your age.
apparently the canals don't freeze over every winter like they used to. so it is freedom and liberation when it happens. everyone just straps on their skates and heads for the canals, by the windmills, of course!
i remember reading a book when i was little. it was about a girl who loved to skate on the canals in winter to go visit her friends and play and skate. i want to be her today. i can see her...the golden curls peeking out of her hat, flying behind her as she is tickled with anticipation to reach her destination...her friends. with the crisp wind on her rosy cheeks and the warm sun on her back.
now that is winter to me.
i long to go out on our lake, or the pond in the backyard, and skate a few passes. each weekend as i drive by the lake and see it dotted with ice fishermen...it makes me feel so excited and so content. life as it should be in the country.
let's meet at the lake with our skates...k??!! see you there!
