conference

This weekend we got to enjoy the 177th Annual General Conference (GC) of our church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). It is so neat to be able to hear from our leaders and have them remind us of the things that our Heavenly Father would have us work on.

This year we listened to all of the sessions at our home and enjoyed the new configuration of the basement. It is really the first time we have been down here together as a family to enjoy it and really use it as a "family room". How lovely!

A few weeks ago we swiped a new couch (see above!) from the side of the road and have really been enjoying it! We actually swiped it from our neighbors next door and are so grateful that they don't think we are too weird for taking it! They were cracking up at how David was trying it out in front of their house at 11pm when he took Roxy out for her potty break, and then him hoisting it into the back of his truck that night before anyone else snagged it! They said they would have just given it to us had they have known. But what is the fun in that?

I am always begging David to swipe things that are on the side of the road and I'm so excited that he finally did it! He always says you never know where all that stuff has been, but this was a special circumstance. We just love our neighbors and have really struck up a wonderful friendship with them over the 2 1/2 years we've been here. Needless to say, David has no qualms about swiping their stuff. And we have put in requests for all their hand-me-downs from now on! It is really a sad story that we have to do it, but apparently we need new insulation this year instead of "proper" furniture for our house. Alas, so it is every year. Someday...we will be grown ups...but until then, hopefully I have lured David to the dark side of dumpster diving!!

This is how Matilda spent most of conference. She is so loving her little hippo hangout and is really getting into grabbing at the toys. I just can't believe how big she is getting!!

Usually we try to attend the church for the Sunday morning session of GC, but Matilda was not feeling so great this morning. She has a cold (#2, for those counting), and had a pretty rough night. So, she was mid-nap when it was time to leave this morning, and we just bagged it and chose to listen/watch via computer. Thank heavens for the net! It was really great though. We sure did love it! And thanks to some friendly advice (prop up bed, saline drops, aspirator, and humidifier), we hope that tonight turns out slightly better! Notice the glassy eyeball look...so sad!

She was just so cute today though, with all her play things and she just laughed and babbled the day away. We couldn't help but break into laughter with her half the time. I wish I felt that good when I had a cold!! We just love her to bits! She is so definitely our favorite new thing in our family (yes, even better than the free couch)!!
